Project Overview: Enhancing Thermal Efficiency with HPC Coatings
SP Coatings Africa, in collaboration with TMS Industrial Services, undertook a groundbreaking project for Sasol Secunda, focusing on the application of our performance coating HPC® on a Sodium Exchanger. This endeavor aimed to enhance thermal efficiency and reduce energy consumption in the industrial setting.




Methodology and Challenges:
Prior to the application, meticulous planning was essential. Considering the complexities of the project, it was crucial to adhere to a strategic approach. One of the key considerations was the application sequence, as opening large surface areas simultaneously could expose the coating to adverse weather conditions, potentially jeopardizing the project's success.





Results and Impact:
Post-application analysis revealed significant improvements in thermal efficiencies. The HPC® coating demonstrated remarkable energy-saving capabilities, particularly on individual tanks. Temperature stability was notably enhanced, creating a more conducive working environment. The coatings effectively regulated temperatures, contributing to a cooler workspace overall.
Moreover, the application of HPC® coating serves as a preventive measure against Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI). By creating an environment inhospitable to oxygen and moisture, the coatings mitigate the risk of substrate corrosion, ensuring prolonged asset lifespan and operational integrity.




Conclusion and Future Prospects:
This project marked a milestone achievement, representing the first large-scale application of its kind for both Sasol and TMS Industrial Services. The successful completion underscores the effectiveness of HPC® coatings in industrial settings, paving the way for future collaborations and similar endeavors.
